A eterna rainha do pop Madonna foi a mais relembrada do evento, conquistando nada menos que 11 nomeações. A superestrela da música, que já teve 19 vitórias competitivas no VMA e foi a primeira artista solo a receber o Video Vanguard Award, disputa nas principais categorias, incluindo Vídeo do Ano, Artista do Ano e Música do Ano.
Taylor Swift, que divide o título de mais condecorada do evento ao lado de Beyoncé (30 vitórias cada), também ganha destaque com nove nomeações, incluindo Vídeo do Ano e Artista do Ano.
Outros nomes que aparecem em peso incluem Ariana Grande e Sabrina Carpenter (7 cada); Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress e Zara Larsson (5 cada); e LISA (4).
